The Alabama Crimson Tide are the sportsbook reviews favorites to win the BCS Championship for a third-straight year this coming season. Any college football fans that don’t think they can get it done will be wise to put their money where their mouth is. The Crimson Tide are listed at +275 to win the national title and while it may not be worth betting on Nick Saban’s squad to get the job done again, there is plenty of value playing some of the other favorites near the top of the list.
The team considered the biggest obstacle in the way of Alabama’s three-peat is the Oregon Ducks, which are listed at +650 to win the BCS Championship. Even the loss of head coach Chip Kelly wasn’t enough for the price per head experts to downgrade Oregon’s chances, as the program is still loaded with talent and will benefit from the continuity that comes with former offensive coordinator Mark Helfrich taking over the coaching duties. Sophomore quarterback Marcus Mariota and junior running back De’Anthony Thomas are both legitimate Heisman trophy contenders, and they will be asked to lead the Ducks through the PAC-12 and in to the national title picture.
While the focus for this live betting season is on preventing a possible Tide three-peat, there are some college football fans that feel Alabama wouldn’t even have won the second of two-in-a-row if the Ohio State Buckeyes hadn’t been hit by a postseason ban as a part of sanctions against the school. The 2012 Buckeyes became the sixth team in program history to go undefeated by winning 12-straight, and many of the same pieces from last year’s team return led by head coach Urban Meyer. That includes Heisman hopeful quarterback Braxton Miller and junior wide receiver Devin Smith, the tandem expected to lead one of the most explosive offenses in the country. Ohio State is listed at +700 to win the national title, which would serve as sweet redemption for a program that felt it was robbed.
Rounding out the list of legitimate BCS Championship contenders that could challenge Alabama is a trip of teams that will try to prevent the Crimson Tide from even getting out of the SEC in LSU, Texas A&M, and Florida. The Tigers are always a threat to knock off Alabama with their tough defense and commitment to winning under head coach Les Miles, and there will be a ton of money on LSU at +1,200. Reigning Heisman trophy winner Johnny Manziel returns to lead the Aggies at +1,200 to win a national title as well, while the Gators are considered the long shot of the group at +1,600. There are those sports betting experts that feel it is only a matter of time before the SEC beats itself up enough to open the door for another conference to win the national title, but considering that an SEC team has won the last seven BCS Championship games, it really is hard to bet against them.
